Waiting On...All the Books

Recently all I have been thinking about is the books I cannot read. You know the ones, the ones that you have been waiting for for so long finally coming out soon, and the other books that you still have a long while to wait for. From fantasy to contemporary romance, here are a few of the books stuck in my head that I cannot wait for.

There are a lot of them.

Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor

October 2, 2018

In the wake of tragedy, neither Lazlo nor Sarai are who they were before. One a god, the other a ghost, they struggle to grasp the new boundaries of their selves as dark-minded Minya holds them hostage, intent on vengeance against Weep.

Lazlo faces an unthinkable choice—save the woman he loves, or everyone else?—while Sarai feels more helpless than ever. But is she? Sometimes, only the direst need can teach us our own depths, and Sarai, the muse of nightmares, has not yet discovered what she's capable of.

As humans and godspawn reel in the aftermath of the citadel's near fall, a new foe shatters their fragile hopes, and the mysteries of the Mesarthim are resurrected: Where did the gods come from, and why? What was done with thousands of children born in the citadel nursery? And most important of all, as forgotten doors are opened and new worlds revealed: Must heroes always slay monsters, or is it possible to save them instead?

I am excited for this book. As it is a Laini Taylor book, it is sure to be weird, but sure to be utterly fantastic. Be sure to read Strange the Dreamer in prep for this upcoming page turner.

A Very Large Expanse of Sea by Tahereh Mafi

Oct. 16, 2018

It’s 2002, a year after 9/11. It’s an extremely turbulent time politically, but especially so for someone like Shirin, a sixteen-year-old Muslim girl who’s tired of being stereotyped.

Shirin is never surprised by how horrible people can be. She’s tired of the rude stares, the degrading comments—even the physical violence—she endures as a result of her race, her religion, and the hijab she wears every day. So she’s built up protective walls and refuses to let anyone close enough to hurt her. Instead, she drowns her frustrations in music and spends her afternoons break-dancing with her brother.

But then she meets Ocean James. He’s the first person in forever who really seems to want to get to know Shirin. It terrifies her—they seem to come from two irreconcilable worlds—and Shirin has had her guard up for so long that she’s not sure she’ll ever be able to let it down.

Tahereh Mafi's writing never ceases to make me fall in love. I cannot wait for this more serious contemporary I have only been hearing amazing things about.

Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas

October 23, 2018

Years in the making, Sarah J. Maas’s #1 New York Times bestselling Throne of Glass series draws to an epic, unforgettable conclusion. Aelin Galathynius’s journey from slave to king’s assassin to the queen of a once-great kingdom reaches its heart-rending finale as war erupts across her world. . .

Aelin has risked everything to save her people―but at a tremendous cost. Locked within an iron coffin by the Queen of the Fae, Aelin must draw upon her fiery will as she endures months of torture. Aware that yielding to Maeve will doom those she loves keeps her from breaking, though her resolve begins to unravel with each passing day…

With Aelin captured, Aedion and Lysandra remain the last line of defense to protect Terrasen from utter destruction. Yet they soon realize that the many allies they’ve gathered to battle Erawan’s hordes might not be enough to save them. Scattered across the continent and racing against time, Chaol, Manon, and Dorian are forced to forge their own paths to meet their fates. Hanging in the balance is any hope of salvation―and a better world.

And across the sea, his companions unwavering beside him, Rowan hunts to find his captured wife and queen―before she is lost to him forever.

Who isn't waiting for the final chapter within the Throne of Glass series? If there is any indication that I am it is the rant that I just had while at work to my poor coworker who has never heard of the series let alone read it.

It is just sooo good.

Picture Perfect Cowboy by Tiffany Reisz

Nov. 5, 2018

Jason "Still" Waters' life looks perfect from the outside—money, fame, and the words "World Champion Bull-Rider" after his name. The Rose by Tiffany Reisz

April 16, 2019

On the day of Lia’s university graduation party, her parents—wealthy art collectors with friends in high places—gift her a beautiful wine cup, a rare artifact decorated with roses. It’s a stunning gift, and one that August Bowman, a friend of her parents and a guest at Lia’s party, also has his eye on. The cup, August tells her, is known as the Rose kylix, and it’s no ordinary cup. It was used in the temple ceremonies of Eros, Greek god of erotic love, and has the power to bring the most intimate sexual fantasies to life.

But Lia is skeptical of August’s claims of the cup’s mythology and magic—after all, he’s a collector himself, and she suspects he just wants to get his hands on this impressive piece of art. So he dares her to try it for herself, and when Lia drinks from the Rose kylix she is suddenly immersed in an erotic myth so vivid it seems real—as though she’s living out the most sensual fantasy with August by her side…

Realizing the true power of this ancient and dangerous relic, Lia is even more wary of giving it up, though August insists it is only safe with him. He’s willing to pay the full value of the cup, but Lia has another type of trade in mind. One that finds them more tangled up in each other—and in fantasy—than either was prepared for.

After reading The Red, unaware there was going to be a sequel, I am preparing myself for this absolutely stunning to look at book as much as I am preparing for the perfectly pornographic pages sure to be read very quickly. Tiffany Reisz has a talent for one sitting reads. I am sure this lovely thing will be no different.

Again, but Better by Christine Riccio

Books I'm Hyped About

Last year to be honest, I thought the releases in the book world fell a little flat. Or didn't really happen at all. In 2018 however, I already am looking forward to quite a few books in the near future . Soon they will hopefully be taking up space in my book bag and time away from my studies already causing me stress.

Will there ever be a time when all I have to do in life is cuddle up in a good blanket and read?

We can hope. If it ever happens in the near future I will be reading a few of these...

Recently released, I still need to get my hands on Slutever: a memior and manifesto by Karley Sciortino. A long time reader of her blog, I have so much respect for this lovely lady. If I had the confidence to talk about what me and my boyfriend text back and forth over the phone I doubt I would ever have any sort of social anxiety again. Or at least not on the internet.

I linked the Barnes edition above, but really, not going to lie. The cover I see on Amazon is way more pin-up badass. Will that be the one that comes or...are we slut shaming a bit over there, Barnes & Nobel? Huh? Answer me and send me the pretty edition!

"SLUTEVER is a call-to-arms, a confessional memoir, a slut manifesto, as told by a sex-radical hedonist in a pink PVC mini dress. It's a thoughtful, first-person account of a modern woman, navigating sex, love, casual hookups, open relationships,, bisexuality, BDSM, breakups, sex work, sex parties, and the power of sexual agency, as told from the front lines."

Also coming out this month is The Lucky Ones by Tiffany Reisz. If you know me at all, we can pretty much say that I am just excited about this because, well, Tiffany Reisz. As I have said previously, I would read basically anything she writes. Hard core fan, yep, right over here.

"Allison pieces together the story of her life, she learns the terrible secret at the heart of the family she once loved but never really knew."

I barely even know what the book is about, but I am completely a-okay with that as long as this pretty paperback appears in my hands soon after the release date.

Years ago in the years of my young adult fanatic stage of great books like City of Bones and Vampire Academy, one of the best lyrical beautiful fantasy dystopias EVER was Shatter Me. Restore Me by Tahereh Mafi is the trilogy now becoming a whole series. I am excited and I only hope that the writing will be just as wonderful and inspiring.

"The girl with the power to kill with a single touch now has the world in the palm of her hand."

When I saw that A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J. Maas was coming out everywhere in May, I paused. I thought...weren't we done with A Court of...? Didn't I already cry for these beautiful characters that formed my recent book family? Apparently we are not done being tortured yet.

"As Feyre navigates her first Winter Solstice as High Lady, she finds that those dearest to her have more wounds than she anticipated—scars that will have far-reaching impact on the future of their Court."

Still...count me in for a beautiful Night Court winter solstice- And a great reading year.

What does everyone else have on their 2018 reading radar so far?
