I am having such a fun and great time reading all of Lisa Kleypas's novels. Nothing is better than to swoon and sigh and jump for joy when a romance novel fills your every hope and dream in a small mass market paperback.
Four young ladies enter London society with one necessary goal: they must use their feminine wit and wiles to find a husband. So they band together, and a daring husband-hunting scheme is born.
It happened at the ball...
Where beautiful but bold Lillian Bowman quickly learned that her independent American ways weren't entirely "the thing." And the most disapproving of all was insufferable, snobbish, and impossible Marcus, Lord Westcliff, London's most eligible aristocrat.
It happened in the garden...
When Marcus shockingly—and dangerously—swept her into his arms. Lillian was overcome with a consuming passion for a man she didn't even like. Time stood still; it was as if no one else existed... thank goodness they weren't caught very nearly in the act!
It happened one autumn...
Marcus was a man in charge of his own emotions, a bedrock of stability. But with Lillian, every touch was exquisite torture, every kiss an enticement for more. Yet how could he consider taking a woman so blatantly unsuitable... as his bride?
Nothing is better than to fall in love with the love interest along side your main character as well. After meeting our leading man, Marcus, in the first book in this stand alone quartet of romances if you will, Marcus was so up tight and I honestly had no thoughts or feelings about him as he stuck his nose up against everyone including Annabelle and Simon's relationship. How dare he?
But alas, Lisa Kleypas did me in again with a somehow amazing man that even I would have trouble not sneaking off into the night with for a little rendezvous.
“There is nothing on earth more beautiful to me than your smile...no sound sweeter than your laughter...no pleasure greater than holding you in my arms. I realized today that I could never live without you, stubborn little hellion that you are. In this life and the next, you’re my only hope of happiness. Tell me, Lillian, dearest love...how can you have reached so far inside my heart?"
Everything was set as we developed outspoken, slightly rough around the edges, characters to fall in love in the lush country side setting of Hampshire.
As Lillian did however there was bickering, hardship, scandal and a bit of so called magic in a perfume I think I must get my own hands on somehow. A combination that kept me glued to the pages the whole way through into the new year. Before of course, picking up the third book in this series promising to be just as good as this last.
Lillian promised a good story with her outspoken attitude, and Kleypas attention to every detail that made me feel like I was falling into a gorgeous Victorian wonderland with each scene that was sure to have me smiling. Yes, just as much as when I stumble into a sexy scene I never knew could exist in a historical romance novel until I began to breeze through these.
Is there anything wrong with these books besides the fact they end before I want to stop reading?

"The next time you face a room full of strangers . . . you might tell yourself that some of them are just friends waiting to be found.”
It Happened One Autumn only promised to make Lisa Kleypas one of my new favorite romance authors of all time.
