So, I have never read a historical romance that enters the realm of bodice ripper before. It has been a realm of reading I simply have not yet breached, but oh my...I am so so glad I now have. Watch out mass market sellers, from bookstores to grocery stores! Here I come. And into this fabulously fun romance we go.
An eccentric wallflower…
Most debutantes dream of finding a husband. Lady Pandora Ravenel has different plans. The ambitious young beauty would much rather stay at home and plot out her new board game business than take part in the London Season. But one night at a glittering society ball, she’s ensnared in a scandal with a wickedly handsome stranger.
A cynical rake…
After years of evading marital traps with ease, Gabriel, Lord St. Vincent, has finally been caught-by a rebellious girl who couldn’t be less suitable. In fact, she wants nothing to do with him. But Gabriel finds the high-spirited Pandora irresistible. He’ll do whatever it takes to possess her, even if their marriage of convenience turns out to be the devil’s own bargain.
A perilous plot…
After succumbing to Gabriel’s skilled and sensuous persuasion, Pandora agrees to become his bride. But soon she discovers that her entrepreneurial endeavors have accidentally involved her in a dangerous conspiracy—and only her husband can keep her safe. As Gabriel protects her from their unknown adversaries, they realize their devil’s bargain may just turn out to be a match made in heaven...
Devil in the Spring is like many historical romances I am now learning. It is a sort of marriage of convince, or marriage for appearances story. Already this book is added onto the pro list for someone who loves that sort of fun loving conflict with a dash of sexual tension.
And of course that kind of person is absolutely me.
And of course that kind of person is absolutely me.
“I’m not your enemy,” he managed to say.
“You’re not my fiancé, either.”
“Not yet.”
“Not ever.”
Gabriel wanted to pounce on her. He wanted to haul her into his arms and kiss her senseless.
The wit in the dialogue and strong characters that bring out bright humor and of course the very often swoon had me over the moon with my love for this mass market book I picked up at my local library book sale exceed my expectation and make me need to read more and more of Lisa Kleypas books. My Goodreads to-read list is filled with the first two in this new historical series of hers as well as her original Wallflower series that has been sitting on my to-read list already for quite some time. Until now.
I am not sure I can go back to perilously searching for the next contemporary romance that is fantastic in between my go to authors books when I have Lisa Kleypas to read more of.
If there is more heroines like Pandora and Gabriel, whose impromptu courtship after a bit of a silly mistake was the sweetest and most wonderful journey of a relationship and understanding of characters themselves sent me reading this book whenever I could throughout the day, oh, I know that I wont ever be dissapointed.
Dangerous creatures, wallflowers. Approach them with the utmost caution. They sit quietly in corners, appearing abandoned and forlorn, when in truth they're sirens who lure men to their downfall. You won't even notice the moment she steals the heart right out of your body--and then it's hers for good. A wallflower never gives your heart back.
And from what I hear, there is quite a few cameos who appear in this book that I can't wait to get in on.
This book was just so delightful and loved every page turning romantic, I would totally let you rip my bodice open too, Gabriel, if I had one, moment of it from easy jokes to heartbroken moments that I never expected to be hit so hard by while reading.
